    CiteGist Takedown & Request Policy

    CiteGist publishes information about the AI citation visibility of public-figure professionals. We take requests for corrections, removals, and privacy-related changes seriously. This page explains how those requests work, what we will and won't do, and how to reach us.

    What You Can Request

    Tier 1 - Public affordances (no account required)

    These controls appear on every Voice profile page.

    Suggest a correction Use this if factual information on a Voice profile is wrong - incorrect job title, wrong employer, wrong sameAs link, or incorrect niche category. Provide the correction and, if possible, a source URL confirming the correct information. Our team reviews every submission before making any change. Submissions are not published automatically.

    Flag this profile Use this for general concerns about a profile that don't fit the correction form. Describe your concern in the free-text field. You may optionally provide an email address if you'd like a response. We review all flags and may escalate to Tier 3 if the flag describes a removal-grade concern.

    Decline outreach If CiteGist has emailed you about claiming your profile and you do not wish to receive further outreach, use this button to opt out permanently. No further outreach emails will be sent to your address. Your profile will remain visible on the Platform. This opt-out is irrevocable - we honor it permanently. (Declining outreach does not remove your profile. To request profile removal, see Tier 3 below.)

    Tier 2 - Claimed Voice controls (requires identity verification)

    If a profile is yours, you can claim it by clicking "This is me" and verifying via LinkedIn OAuth or a verification code placed in your LinkedIn headline. Once claimed, you can:

    • Edit certain profile fields (bio, sameAs link additions/removals, niche)
    • Hide individual sameAs links from your public profile
    • Set "do not track" - pauses CiteRank recomputation for your profile. Your page remains visible with a frozen score and a notice: "Score frozen at request of Voice."
    • Request full profile removal (escalates to Tier 3)

    Tier 3 - Removal and formal requests (gated)

    Tier 3 handles full removal requests and formal legal/privacy claims. It is accessible via:

    • Your claimed Voice console (after completing Tier 2)
    • A direct link included in our response when we escalate a Tier 1 flag
    • Email to [email protected]

    What Tier 3 requests may include:

    • Full profile removal
    • GDPR Article 17 Right to Erasure (see section below)
    • CCPA Right to Delete
    • Defamation or factual harm claims (with supporting documentation)
    • Copyright concerns (see DMCA policy)
    • Any other formal privacy or legal request

    What we ask you to provide:

    • Your identity (verification via LinkedIn or another public professional profile; government ID may be requested for non-public figures)
    • The specific concern and requested outcome
    • Supporting documentation, where applicable
    • Your jurisdiction (used to route GDPR, CCPA, or general handling)

    Our Response Timeline

    We aim to acknowledge every request within 5 business days of receipt.

    For requests submitted under GDPR (Article 17 Right to Erasure, or other Articles 15–22 rights): we comply with the 30-day response period required by GDPR. We will provide a substantive response - including our decision and the legal basis - within 30 days. Where a request is complex, we may extend this by up to a further 2 months; if so, we will notify you within the initial 30 days and explain the reason.

    For clear privacy violations (for example, private contact information published in error): we aim to respond within 72 hours.

    For general correction and flag requests: we aim to resolve within 30 days.

    What We Will and Won't Remove

    We evaluate every request on its merits, the applicable legal framework, and the public-interest value of the information. We respond to every request and explain our decision.

    We will remove or correct:

    • Factually incorrect information (wrong job title, wrong employer, incorrect sameAs link)
    • Private information published in error (personal email, home address, or similar information that should not be public)
    • Content successfully challenged under GDPR Article 17 or CCPA Right to Delete, where no exemption applies
    • Content successfully challenged under applicable defamation law, where a court order or well-documented claim is provided

    We will evaluate case-by-case:

    • Removal requests from public-figure professionals - we conduct a balancing test between the public interest in accurate information and the individual's privacy rights. GDPR Article 17(3) provides exemptions for freedom of expression and public-interest information, which may apply. We will explain our decision.
    • Requests to suppress a CiteRank score or remove a Voice from leaderboards without removing the full profile - handled via the "do not track" freeze in Tier 2

    We will generally not remove:

    • Accurate factual information about a Voice's professional role or publicly stated niche
    • CiteRank scores computed from published methodology applied to public signals - these are algorithmic outputs, not editorial statements
    • AI-generated content style characterizations derived from the Voice's own public content
    • Public-figure profiles solely because the Voice prefers not to be ranked

    If you disagree with our decision, you may submit a counter-notice (see below) or seek legal counsel regarding your rights.

    GDPR Article 17 - Right to Erasure

    If you are an EU/EEA resident and wish to submit a formal request under GDPR Article 17, please email [email protected] with the subject line: "GDPR Art. 17 Erasure Request - [Your Name]".

    We will:

    1. Acknowledge receipt within 5 business days
    2. Verify your identity (to protect against requests submitted on another person's behalf)
    3. Conduct a documented balancing test between your erasure right and applicable exemptions (including Article 17(3)(a) freedom of expression and Article 17(3)(e) public interest)
    4. Provide a written response including our decision and its legal basis within 30 days

    Counter-Notice

    If you believe a profile was removed or modified in error, you may submit a counter-notice to [email protected]. Please include:

    • Your name and contact information
    • The profile URL that was affected
    • A description of the change and why you believe it was made in error
    • Any supporting documentation

    We will review counter-notices within 30 days.
